Over 20 million people across the globe are needlessly blind, 90% live in the developing world, where access to eye care is limited. Half of all blindness in the world today is the result of cataracts. A cataract is the clouding of the normally transparent lens and when untreated, causes blindness. When an individual develops a preventable cataract, it has a ripple effect in the community, a child cannot receive the education they deserve. A parent cannot continue to work and support their family. A grandparent cannot continue to provide care and support to their grandchildren. Our goal is to end preventable blindness around the world by providing free cataract surgery for people who otherwise be unable to access it. By treating cataracts, we uplift families and communities so they can break the cycle of hardship caused by preventable blindness.
