Marconi is working on what is to become the radio, and people are beginning to use the telephone to talk about it. In the typical kitchen, there's an icebox. Frigidaire won't introduce the refrigerator for another 20 years, and without refrigeration, everything spoils. So mother has to shop every day. The kitchen stove needs constant fuel and can't be turned off for much of the year. The heat from the kitchen can make the house unbearable. It's not easy being a housewife at this point. The kitchen hasn't changed much since the early 18 hundreds.
